Processed on your device. Your files are never uploaded. Videos are re-encoded in real time, so a 5-minute video takes about 5 minutes. Keep this tab open and visible.

How to use it

  1. Choose a video.
  2. Pick a resolution and quality. 720p at Medium is a good start.
  3. Click Compress video, wait for it to finish and download the result.

How video is processed here

Your browser plays the video and records it again at the settings you choose. This works without installing anything and keeps your file private, but it runs in real time: the processing time equals the length of the video. Keep the tab open and visible while it runs. The result is MP4 where your browser can create it (Chrome and Edge on desktop, Safari) and WebM otherwise.

Tips

  • Lower resolution gives the biggest savings.
  • If the new file is not smaller, the original was already compressed; try Low quality or 480p.
  • Do not switch to another window while it works, some browsers slow down hidden tabs.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is processed inside your browser.

Why does it take as long as the video?

The video is played and recorded again in real time. This keeps everything on your device.

Why is the output sometimes WebM?

Browsers decide which formats they can record. Chrome and Edge on desktop and Safari create MP4; others create WebM.

Does it work on phones?

It can, but long or high-resolution videos may be too heavy. A computer is better.

Will the sound be kept?

Yes, unless the video has no sound or the browser cannot read it. Use Mute video to remove the sound on purpose.
