How to convert linear current density

Linear current density is electric current per unit of width, for example in a current sheet or a coil winding.

Every linear current density unit is a fixed multiple of one base unit, the A/m. To convert a value, multiply it by the size of the starting unit and divide by the size of the target unit. For example, to convert A/cm to A/m, multiply by 100. To go the other way, divide by 100.

The converter above does this for you and shows the exact formula under the result.

Worked examples

10 A/cm = 1,000 A/m10 × 100 = 1,000 A/m.
25 A/m = 0.25 A/cm25 × 0.01 = 0.25 A/cm.
5 A/in = 196.85039 A/m5 × 39.37007874 = 196.8503937 A/m.
50 kA/m = 500 A/cm50 × 10 = 500 A/cm.

Frequently asked questions

How many A/m is 1 A/cm?

One ampere per centimeter is 100 amperes per meter.

How do I convert A/cm to A/m?

Multiply the value in A/cm by 100 to get A/m. For example, 10 A/cm = 1,000 A/m.

How many A/m is 1 A/cm?

1 A/cm = 100 A/m, and 1 A/m = 0.01 A/cm.

Does this linear current density converter work offline?

Yes. After the page has loaded once, all calculations run in your browser, so it keeps working without an internet connection.
