How to convert data storage
Storage makers and networks use decimal units (1 KB = 1,000 bytes), while many operating systems report binary units (1 KiB = 1,024 bytes). That difference is why a 1 TB drive often shows as about 931 GiB in your computer.
Every data storage unit is a fixed multiple of one base unit, the B. To convert a value, multiply it by the size of the starting unit and divide by the size of the target unit. For example, to convert GB to MB, multiply by 1,000. To go the other way, divide by 1,000.
