How to convert molar concentration

Molar concentration (molarity) is the amount of substance per volume. Chemistry uses mol/L (written M), and blood tests often use mmol/L.

Every molar concentration unit is a fixed multiple of one base unit, the mol/m³. To convert a value, multiply it by the size of the starting unit and divide by the size of the target unit. For example, to convert mol/L to mmol/L, multiply by 1,000. To go the other way, divide by 1,000.

The converter above does this for you and shows the exact formula under the result.

Worked examples

10 mol/L = 10,000 mmol/L10 × 1,000 = 10,000 mmol/L.
25 mmol/L = 25 µmol/L25 × 1 = 25 µmol/L.
5 mol/m³ = 0.005 mol/L5 × 0.001 = 0.005 mol/L.
50 M = 50,000 mM50 × 1,000 = 50,000 mM.

Frequently asked questions

How many mmol/L is 1 mol/L?

One mole per liter is 1,000 millimoles per liter.

How do I convert mol/L to mmol/L?

Multiply the value in mol/L by 1,000 to get mmol/L. For example, 10 mol/L = 10,000 mmol/L.

How many mmol/L is 1 mol/L?

1 mol/L = 1,000 mmol/L, and 1 mmol/L = 0.001 mol/L.

Does this molar concentration converter work offline?

Yes. After the page has loaded once, all calculations run in your browser, so it keeps working without an internet connection.
