How to convert power density

Power density is power per volume. It is used to compare batteries, engines, power supplies and heat sources.

Every power density unit is a fixed multiple of one base unit, the W/m³. To convert a value, multiply it by the size of the starting unit and divide by the size of the target unit. For example, to convert W/L to W/in³, multiply by 0.01638706400. To go the other way, divide by 0.01638706400.

The converter above does this for you and shows the exact formula under the result.

Worked examples

10 W/L = 0.16387064 W/in³10 × 0.01638706400 = 0.1638706400 W/in³.
25 W/in³ = 1,525.5936 W/L25 × 61.02374409 = 1,525.593602 W/L.
5 kW/m³ = 5 W/L5 × 1 = 5 W/L.
50 hp/ft³ = 1,316.7071 kW/m³50 × 26.33414244 = 1,316.707122 kW/m³.
