How to convert radiation dose equivalent

Dose equivalent (effective dose) accounts for the biological effect of radiation. The SI unit is the sievert (Sv), and the older unit is the rem.

Every radiation dose equivalent unit is a fixed multiple of one base unit, the Sv. To convert a value, multiply it by the size of the starting unit and divide by the size of the target unit. For example, to convert mSv to mrem, multiply by 1. To go the other way, divide by 1.

The converter above does this for you and shows the exact formula under the result.

Worked examples

10 mSv = 1 mrem10 × 1 = 1 mrem.
25 mrem = 25 µSv25 × 1 = 25 µSv.
5 Sv = 5 rem5 × 1 = 5 rem.
50 µSv = 5 nSv50 × 1 = 5 nSv.

Frequently asked questions

How many rem is 1 sievert?

One sievert is 100 rem, and one millisievert is 100 millirem.

How do I convert mSv to mrem?

Multiply the value in mSv by 1 to get mrem. For example, 10 mSv = 1 mrem.

How many mrem is 1 mSv?

1 mSv = 1 mrem, and 1 mrem = 0.01 mSv.

Does this radiation dose equivalent converter work offline?

Yes. After the page has loaded once, all calculations run in your browser, so it keeps working without an internet connection.
