How to convert frequency

Frequency counts how often something repeats each second. Radio and processors use kilohertz, megahertz and gigahertz, while engines and motors are rated in revolutions per minute (rpm).

Every frequency unit is a fixed multiple of one base unit, the Hz. To convert a value, multiply it by the size of the starting unit and divide by the size of the target unit. For example, to convert MHz to kHz, multiply by 1,000. To go the other way, divide by 1,000.

The converter above does this for you and shows the exact formula under the result.

Worked examples

10 MHz = 10,000 kHz10 × 1,000 = 10,000 kHz.
25 GHz = 25,000 MHz25 × 1,000 = 25,000 MHz.
5 Hz = 300.00000 rpm5 × 60.00000000 = 300.0000000 rpm.
50 rpm = 0.83333333 Hz50 × 0.01666666667 = 0.8333333333 Hz.

Frequently asked questions

How many Hz is 1 rpm?

One revolution per minute is 1/60 hertz, or about 0.01667 Hz.

How many MHz is 1 GHz?

One gigahertz is 1,000 megahertz.

How do I convert MHz to kHz?

Multiply the value in MHz by 1,000 to get kHz. For example, 10 MHz = 10,000 kHz.

How many kHz is 1 MHz?

1 MHz = 1,000 kHz, and 1 kHz = 0.001 MHz.

Does this frequency converter work offline?

Yes. After the page has loaded once, all calculations run in your browser, so it keeps working without an internet connection.
