How to convert electrical resistance

Resistance is measured in ohms. Resistor values in electronics are usually written in ohms, kilohms and megohms.

Every electrical resistance unit is a fixed multiple of one base unit, the Ω. To convert a value, multiply it by the size of the starting unit and divide by the size of the target unit. For example, to convert kΩ to Ω, multiply by 1,000. To go the other way, divide by 1,000.

The converter above does this for you and shows the exact formula under the result.

Worked examples

10 kΩ = 10,000 Ω10 × 1,000 = 10,000 Ω.
25 Ω = 0.025 kΩ25 × 0.001 = 0.025 kΩ.
5 MΩ = 5,000 kΩ5 × 1,000 = 5,000 kΩ.
50 mΩ = 0.050 Ω50 × 0.001 = 0.050 Ω.

Frequently asked questions

How many ohms is 1 kΩ?

One kilohm (kΩ) is 1,000 ohms (Ω).

How do I convert kΩ to Ω?

Multiply the value in kΩ by 1,000 to get Ω. For example, 10 kΩ = 10,000 Ω.

How many Ω is 1 kΩ?

1 kΩ = 1,000 Ω, and 1 Ω = 0.001 kΩ.

Does this electrical resistance converter work offline?

Yes. After the page has loaded once, all calculations run in your browser, so it keeps working without an internet connection.
