How to convert si prefixes

Metric prefixes scale any unit by a power of ten. Converting between them only means moving the decimal point, which this tool does for you.

Every si prefixes unit is a fixed multiple of one base unit, the unit. To convert a value, multiply it by the size of the starting unit and divide by the size of the target unit. For example, to convert k to 1, multiply by 1. To go the other way, divide by 1.

The converter above does this for you and shows the exact formula under the result.

Worked examples

10 k = 1 110 × 1 = 1 1.
25 M = 25 k25 × 1 = 25 k.
5 G = 5 M5 × 1 = 5 M.
50 1 = 5 m50 × 1 = 5 m.

Frequently asked questions

How many milli are in a kilo?

A kilo is 10³ and a milli is 10⁻³, so one kilo is 1,000,000 (10⁶) milli.

How do I convert k to 1?

Multiply the value in k by 1 to get 1. For example, 10 k = 1 1.

How many 1 is 1 k?

1 k = 1 1, and 1 1 = 0.001 k.

Does this si prefixes converter work offline?

Yes. After the page has loaded once, all calculations run in your browser, so it keeps working without an internet connection.
