How to convert temperature

Celsius is used for everyday temperatures in most of the world, Fahrenheit in the United States, and Kelvin in science, where 0 K is absolute zero. Unlike most units, temperature scales are converted with an offset as well as a multiplier.

Temperature scales are converted through Kelvin. °F = °C × 9/5 + 32, °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9, K = °C + 273.15.

The converter above applies the right formula for the units you choose and shows the result instantly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 (1.8) and add 32. For example, 20 °C is 20 × 1.8 + 32 = 68 °F.

How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?

Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit value and multiply by 5/9. For example, 98.6 °F is (98.6 − 32) × 5/9 = 37 °C.

At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?

They are equal at −40 degrees: −40 °C is exactly −40 °F.

What is absolute zero?

Absolute zero is 0 K, which is −273.15 °C or about −459.67 °F. It is the lowest temperature that is theoretically possible.

How many °F is 1 °C?

1 °C = 33.80 °F, and 1 °F = -17.22222222 °C.
